  • What's going on with the defunct movie theater downtown? It's so disheartening seeing a potential place of art and culture sit vacant and unused.

I totally agree with the sentiment expressed in your question. The problem is that the cost to renovate the theatre is north of 2 million dollars.

The town can help with tax incentives and a possible grant but we need a talented team with some significant private funding to step up to the plate. Find that group and I'll convince my dad to find a way to make it work!

  • All I hear about is the skatepark, my kids are younger and not ready to skate yet. When will the splash pad be open?

The funding for the splash pad has been set aside from savings on a bond restructure. The pad is being designed in the spring and will go through the land use process in the summer and early fall. Hopefully, construction can commence this year. Remember that we are doing the work in-house in addition to numerous other projects including road paving. I will try my best to expedite the project and I'm pretty confident in a money-back guarantee for next summer. Late this summer is possible but it's a longshot

  • Is there a time limit from when a store rents a space, puts up a sign, and almost 3 years later still has not opened? We don't need empty stores we need more foot traffic.

Time limits for private property are established by the owner of the property. If the tenant is paying rent, they can occupy the space without opening. My function is to help my dad improve the demographics. Increased train and bus service with more people living downtown increases vibrancy which increases demand for space. When there is stronger demand, it is probable that a higher level of tenants will take over underutilized space. Keynesian economics 101!

  • What is your favorite new business in town?

My job centers on nurturing existing businesses and helping my dad bring in new businesses. It is very difficult to pick my favorite new business but if I had to pick one it would be Amazon. They will bring in more new dollars in tax revenue than all others and the new revenue will help reduce taxes for all businesses. Also, I will be able to get my special-ordered Alaskan salmon treats in less time

  • How are you typing these answers? Aren't you a dog?

My dad has provided me with a great staff to assist me as required. I also can speak to them telepathically, so that's pretty cool.

  • How can I get involved in Naugy Now?

Any cool ideas you have can be submitted to me with the form above, or to our Naugy now email address which is naugynow@gmail.com. Keep in mind, my answers may have a little more bark than the alternative.

  • What's your daily routine?

On most days, my dad and I start off with a reflective hike in the woods or by the Naugatuck river. I also go to my dad's office to assist him in all of his daily meetings. My favorite part though is when we go to local restaurants and the friendly people on staff treat me to a meal. Nothing better than a Milkbone Sumo bowl with wagyu beef and truffles.

  • How did you celebrate your dad's birthday?

We went to the Naugatuck River on an adventure. We had a great lunch at the Station and my mom made us a sensational dinner. My mom is the best chef on the planet, by the way. Also, I received a special cake from Alexa Rose Treats. Out of bounds!

  • Is there a way to get patches from both NPD and NFD?

Naugatuck Police Department and Naugatuck Fire Department patches can be obtained from Chief McAllister and Chief Russell. Theses patches are essentially for collectors and cannot be used to impersonate a Police Officer or Fire Fighter. Contact Chief McAllister at cmcallister@naugatuckpd.org and Chief Russell at prussell@naugatuck-ct.gov to obtain your patches. Please feel free to use my name. I will be glad to make a personal call to help you obtain a patch if you have difficulty in obtaining one.

  • When have you cried?

Why would I cry when I get to hike and hang out with my Dad all day and my mother is the best cook on the planet. The only time I actually was brought to tears was when I watched the movie Old Yeller with my Dad.

  • When are you going to lower taxes?

The only way to reduce taxes without decreasing services or adversely impacting school funding is to grow the town; Smart growth is the key to tax reduction. There is no one better than my Dad in the area of adding value to the grand list. As I respond to your question, my dad is in the process of adding numerous properties to the grand list including the following developments:

    1. Mixed use / TOD development, 180 units on Parcel B - with a new train station and platform.

    2. Mixed use / TOD - 260 unit market rate/high end apartments on Parcel A with additional commercial uses.

    3. New Industrial subdivision at the former 86.5 acre Uniroyal site.

    4. Seven other town properties being sold and added to the grand list on Rubber Avenue.

These properties are just the tip of the iceberg. Real property values have risen dramatically and the current mill rate is lower than when my dad started. In addition, roads are being paved and other infrastructure is being rebuilt. The best is yet to come.

  • How do you feel about the borough’s cat population?

To quote my favorite athlete of all time, Muhammad Ali, “I ain’t got no quarrel”

with them cats. We all need to live together in peace and harmony.

  • What are your favorite hiking trails In town?

My favorite trail is the Mission 22 Trail. My regular route is on the Meshattuck

Trail which is connected to the Bridle Trail near my house. If you follow my Dad on

Facebook, these maps and many others are available. Please contact me again if

    you have trouble finding them.

  • If they were only going on a 3-hour tour, why did the Howell's bring so many clothes to Gilligan's Island?

This is a valid question. In my judgement, the Howell’s “were misinformed”.

Question for you. From what great Hollywood movie did the line “was

misinformed” come from – hint – An old classic prior to my Dad’s birth that I have

seen at least 7 times. Rated as one of the best films of all-time.

  • Dear Beaumont, Who is your favorite, mom or dad? It’s okay, you can be honest! We won’t tell them what you say.

Very Difficult Question. The smarter answer is my mom. My dad's life will be easier if she wins!

  • Looking for a great Classic rock band for a concert on the green? Please check out Valley Drive band on Facebook! On of Connecticuts best bands based right here in the valley!

My dad and I will check it out. If I like your style, I'll convince my dad to sign you up!

PS: My Dad loves The Rolling Stones as well as Eric Burdon.

  • Has the traffic circle for rubber avenue been dropped? Would it make more sense to put one on the north end of church and meadow and eliminate the 4-way stop there? There is enough space for a roundabout already.

The Rubber Avenue roundabout is moving forward this year and the entire project will be completed next year. State funded road projects take much longer than Borough road projects. We are also in the early stages of applying for State funding for the Meadow Street roundabout. When both projects are completed, traffic flow through Naugatuck will be drastically improved

  • Who is your dog groomer?

I prefer my look with long shaggy hair but whenever I get snarly, Lauren at K-9 Cutz does a great job fixing me up.

  • Do you have any siblings?

I have 6 siblings, 5 that I haven't seen since I was 12 weeks old. I remain in touch with my brother and we hang out and play by the Naugatuck River in Linden Park!

  • Has your dad thought about bringing a drive-in movie theater to the town?

My dad is dying to bring an old fashioned/ Noir style drive-in theater to Naugatuck. We have targeted a location right off Route 8 and are trying to work it out!

  • Are there any plans to improve the events center building?

The event center building is being sold to a developer who will be adding a 5th story and converting the building into a 270 unit market rate residential building with efficiency 1 and 2 bedroom apartments with some commercial space.

  • What is the opening status on Popeyes?! What is the hold up?! Can we please get an update!

The hold-up on Popeyes was related to Eversource and delays relating to the addition of additional services on Rubber Avenue. The staff is training and the opening is close!

  • When is the next town wide chemical waste donation? We haven’t had one this year… we should be having these town wide at least twice a year.

Town-wide waste donations are regional and are run by NVCOG. There was one several weeks ago in Middlebury. Naugatuck residents are welcome at all locations. There is one scheduled soon. Check the NVCOG website for the dates and locations.

  • How does one go about getting the $20 senior ticket/credit? Thank- you for your attention, Beaumont! Long live Tarantino!

The format for senior vouchers has been changed by the state. Contact Harvey at the senior center for details.  All vendors at the farmers market accept senior and WIC FMNP benefits. Sunset Farm accepts EBT!

  • Hi Beaumont - What can be done to stop chronic noise/blasting music past 10 pm at [REDACTED]? Hope you are not kept up too! 🐾

Naugatuck passed a new noise ordinance several years ago. The police have a device that measures the levels. The police will address any valid complaints!

  • Will the ATM for bank of America stay even if the property sells? I hope so we need one for that bank in town 🤞

    Affirmative! It will remain.

  • Are there any plans for the vacant Naugatuck Glass site?

Dunkin' Donuts on the northern site. Another commercial lot next to it. Plus there is a company currently operating in the existing building. We are also doing a facade improvement program on Bridge Street and Chipotle is starting construction soon. I am a huge fan of the guacamole salads at Chipotle!

  • Why does Naugatuck have cameras all over town but can't stop the car break-ins?

Most car break-ins are committed by perpetrators who try to avoid cameras.  Also, many break-ins are captured on camera but there are no license plates or other forms of identification. We agree that this is a major problem. Our police are vigilant. Most of the crimes are committed by out-of-town professionals who are repeat offenders. We need to strengthen our laws to keep offenders incarcerated while awaiting trial on other car thefts. My advice to you is to contact your State Representative and encourage them to get tougher on pre-trial release

  • When is the mill rate ever going to come down?

The mill rate has been steadily declining since 2017 when it was 48.55. The rate is currently 44.75 and will decline significantly in the next 2 years because of phased-in revaluation. Residential taxes have increased because of increased property values. Commercial and industrial taxes have steadily declined. Many residential values have increased by 40 to as high as 85 percent. If your home value has increased above the median, your taxes increase even though the mill rate goes down. The mill rate will continue to go down for the next 2 years. Then we plan to increase revenues with new tax money from our residential, industrial, and commercial economic development projects.

  • Has your dad considered a bigger and better animal control facility for the dogs waiting for their forever homes?

Yes. My Dad is a major league dog lover. Of course, I'm his favorite. The facility needs major upgrades or a total replacement. The town is considering regionalization and is also looking for grants. If these avenues do not provide a solution, the upgrades will become a Borough capital project and be placed in our capital plan.

The problem then becomes one of the priorities as there are several other worthy projects on the table. My dad will fix as many problems as he can but is limited by the amount of money available without raising taxes. It would be easy to fix all the problems in town if the money was available. We prioritize the problems and pick them off gradually. Fortunately, the health and safety of dogs is a priority !

  • What is going to happen to the multi-family apartment building that burned on Pond Street?

It will be demolished by its owner Fannie Mae

  • What can your dad do about the excessive speeding down Hillside Ave from Millville to Fairview Ave.? It's getting out of control and dangerous to cross the street. I'm worried for the kids walking to hillside school.

The best thing for you to do is to make a complaint to the Police Commission. They are the local traffic authority. They can have a study done that will provide the best solution.
